Solid product
When my Xbox 360 RROD’d (way past warranty), I decided not to drop $250 on another one. I don’t play a ton of games, and can find what I want for the pc. I was already signed up on Steam, and at first I tried a gamepad made by a company that makes the heavy-duty gamer controls, but that wouldn’t even work! Thanks to Amazon, I was able to return it, even refunded return shipping. I bought this unit, popped in the setup disc, drivers loaded, plugged it in and it worked on every game that supports gamepads. Plus, having played Xbox for a couple of years, it was completely comfortable. Well worth the money.

No problems with this wired controller! I bought it for my computer and works as expected. I also tested the controller in a Xbox 360 and it worked well too! No problems installing drivers either! (Windows Update took care of that)

cant wait for assassins creed revelations to come out now that i dont have to play it on a keyboard… some games are better with a controller. I like FPS games on keyboard but a game like AC or Prince of Persia is much nicer with a controller

It is very comfortable to hold.
All the buttons are right where you need them, and they have a good feel when pressed.
The two thumb joysticks are very precise.
The cord is really long (9 feet).
It feels very solid and well built.
If you are looking for a gamepad for your PC, definitely consider this one.

Perfect for my Windows 7 laptop! Plug-&-play, works great!
I bought this controller because I needed something that was truely plug and play. It works flawlessly on my Windows 7 Professional 64 bit laptop. I chose the “For Windows” version of the XBOX 360 controller simply because I didn’t want to take a chance with other controllers not being recognized or working incorrectly. I don’t have an XBOX 360 and wanted this specifically for my Windows computer. It is a perfect match! This controller is recognized immediately by Windows which installs the drivers automatically. If you want you can also go to the Microsoft website and download the latest software/drivers too.
The controller itself works as described with no problems whatsoever. I am using this controller along with another XBOX 360 controller to play multiplayer games on a Nintendo 64 emulator (Project 64) on my PC. Assigning the buttons is easy, but the rumble does not work without installing a plugin (not the controllers fault, just letting you know). I don’t mind not having rumble at the moment as it does not affect game play and will install the necessary rumble plugin some day. This controller also works with many other PC games.
I highly recommend a Microsoft controller over a third-party controller! The quality is worth the money. I also recommend going with this USB wired controller over a wireless version so you don’t have to bother with batteries or charging. Its simply plug and play and I can’t really ask for more than that. Great controller for Windows computers, buy this one!

Plug and play – installed easily on my Windows 7 system. Works great so far (using it for Elder Scrolls: Skyrim).

After trying for several days to get a wireless Xbox controller + receiver to work on my PC, I gave up and dumped $40 into yet another Xbox controller. This wired one worked immediately upon plug-in. It works with most of my PC games with zero or minimal tweaking of the game settings. (I’m currently playing Skyrim and Kingdoms of Amalur, no probs!) The thing I love about Xbox controllers (both in using them for the PC and for the 360) is that they are quite intuitive & user-friendly. I press the button I think will work for a specific function/action and 9 out of 10 times, it does just that; very little guesswork or testing. They are also exceptionally easy on the hands. I don’t know if I could go back to a keyboard + mouse combination. While I still can’t speak for durability (I’ve only been using this controller for about a week now), I give this controller an A+.

The Bad: No profile manager, a bit pricey
When Games for Windows launched for Vista it was exciting for Xbox 360 owners because you could use your Xbox LIVE card and add to your achievement score and experience Xbox LIVE on your gaming PC. Then the Xbox 360 controller came out for Windows and, well, there’s not much to say other than it’s a 360 controller that works on your computer. The layout and functions are exactly the same, and if you are playing a Game for Windows enabled game you can use your controller like you would on the Xbox. The home button pulls up the dashboard, and the game will recognize it like if it were a 360.
Other games tend to recognize it as well (if it supports a game pad) and I have had no problems with it so far. I do wish, however, there was some type of profile manager that allows you to use it for games that don’t support game pads. You have to result to third party software for this (Pinnacle Game Profiler is perfect). The installation was painless and there’s just not much to it. You can use a keyboard or mouse port, but this confused me since peripherals are all moving toward USB now. There is a USB adapter, but including the mouse port seemed a little early 2000′s.
You can also use the controller on your Xbox so it’s like having two in one. This is great if your short on controller and want to play multiplayer. The cord has a generous length and the force feedback works swell if the game supports it. There is even a port for and Xbox LIVE headset for online play. I highly recommend this controller for PC gamers and Xbox fans since the controller is pretty much standard in every game now.
Great item
This is a very stable controller compared to others such as logitech. I received the item 1 day earlier then expected which I was highly satisfied with. Overall I recommend purchasing this item, esp. if your an MMO-RPG player. The wired controller is much more logical than the wireless one.
Great way to play X-Box games on your PC
I am a PS3 Owner, and if you have ever tried to link your PS3 controllers to a computer it is a pain, requiring you to download a bunch of files from shady websites etc. And the vast majority of 3rd party controllers are overpriced and/or break easily. The biggest benefit to this controller however, is that if you hook up your TV to your computer through a VGA cable (or just play through your monitor) you can play the PC versions of most X-Box games as if you had an X-Box.
Also installation couldn’t be easier. Since this is a Microsoft product, all you have to do it put the controller into a USB port on your computer, and in about 30 seconds it is set up and working. You don’t even need to push a single button.
